Hello 2012 Band Parents & Students,
Below is a whole bunch of probably overwhelming information. Please take the time to read through it all as it is ALL important to this upcoming semester.
RELIGION INDEPENDENT STUDY
All Band students will receive credit for being enrolled in an independent study course of Religion. This course will have a separate instructor from Band and will meet during Band period as often as requested by the instructor, which is estimated to be once per week. Students will receive report card grades for both courses.
MARCHING BAND
St. Anthony will be debuting its brand new marching band, The Marching Saints, in just a few short months at a home football game. Throughout the semester, the band will also perform in parades and compete in marching band field show tournaments.
Band Camp
To kick off all of this, we are starting the year off with a 2 week Band Camp. All incoming band students are expected to attend all 9 days of this training. Band Camp will be held at St. Maria Goretti church the two weeks before school. See the attached calendar for dates, and day(s) off. Note: Different sections of the band will train at separate times during Band Camp. Your child will be assigned their instrument and section based on their desires and abilities as presented on the first day of Band Camp. Monday night after the first day of Band Camp, there will be a mandatory parent/student meeting to discuss the season and class.
Rehearsals
Marching Band rehearsals will be held every Monday and Wednesday night at Clark Field during the school semester until Mid-November. See the attached calendar for dates, times, and days off. Students will be expected to be at the field and ready to rehearse at 6pm sharp. Parents may stay during rehearsals, or drop off and pickup around 9pm once the band is released. Note: We are working on some sort of transportation from St. Anthony to Clark Field on Mondays and Wednesday. If we can make this happen, we will let you know.
Football Games
The band will perform at all home football games on Friday nights at Clark Field. We will perform as the Drumline or Pep Band in the stands, and later in the season as the Marching Band on the field during half time performing our competitive field show. See the attached calendar for dates, times, and days off.
Competitions
We are scheduled to compete in 2 Tournaments during the Fall, and then Championships if we qualify. For each of these events, a bus will transport the band from St. Anthony to the Tournament school and back again. Departure and arrival times are estimates and are subject to change as more information becomes available. We will send out a competition day schedule for each event. Parent attendance is highly encouraged.
BAND DUES
A total of $245 to be in Band for Fall 2012 will be due by the end of Band Camp. These dues include a $100 St. Anthony Transportation Fee, a $115 Marching Band Fee, and a $30 Concert Band Fee. If you are unable to pay it in full during Band Camp, please notify the school bookkeeper to make payment arrangements.
FUNDRAISING
Christmas Trees
Our main fundraiser for Fall semester will be a Christmas Tree Sale. Pre-Sales for orders of trees, wreaths, and garland will take place in the month of October. One-day distribution of the pre-sold items will be on Saturday December 8th at Clark Field. Note: Band Parent Boosters may schedule other fundraisers as necessary during the semester if necessary to support the band program.
Portraits
Band Portraits will be scheduled during the semester and available for sale. Once the details are finalized, we will let you know.
WINTER WIND ENSEMBLE
After marching band championships, we will jump immediately into Concert Band. Students may or may not be playing their same instrument as marching band. There will be a Winter Concert in December before Christmas Break. Date and time listed on Calendar are only estimates and are subject to change.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Transportation
With over 50 students, over 50 instruments, and accompanying equipment; transportation will take heavy coordination. Mr. Lloyd can only chaperon 1 bus. Other buses will need parents chaperons, and other vehicles and drivers will be needed for instrument transportation.
Band Parent Booster Association
At the Mandatory Band Parent/Student Meeting on August 6th at 6pm at St. Anthony, nominations and voting for Band Parent Boosters Association will take place. The Boosters, comprised of band parents, will be responsible for managing and organizing all events and fundraising supporting the band. This is the best way to volunteer your time and support to your student and the band.
Labor
The music classroom will be undergoing a transformation to become a functional Band Room before school is in session. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Demolition of existing cabinetry, building of brand new walls, and installation of new shelving and cabinetry will be performed on August 18th at St. Anthony's "Done In A Day" event. Parents with time and services to donate to this project may qualify for credit towards Tuition or Service Hours. Notify the school administration to discuss arrangements.
